Speed Catamaran Tour FAQ
Answers to the questions travellers ask most before booking a catamaran tour from Phuket to Phi Phi and Khai Island.
About the catamaran
What is a speed catamaran tour?
A speed catamaran tour is a day trip on a motorised boat with two hulls instead of one. It is fast enough to reach the Phi Phi Islands and Khai Island from Phuket in a single day, but it is wider and usually steadier than a standard speedboat.
It is different from a sailing catamaran or sunset cruise, which travel more slowly and usually visit islands closer to Phuket.
Is a catamaran better than a speedboat if I get seasick?
For most people, yes. Two hulls set wide apart reduce the side-to-side roll you feel in a swell, so the ride is usually calmer than on a single-hull speedboat.
No boat can promise zero seasickness, though. If you are prone to it, take a seasickness tablet before the trip, sit near the middle of the boat and keep your eyes on the horizon.
What is the difference between this catamaran tour and your speedboat tour?
- Speed catamaran: from ฿3,200 per adult, maximum 30 guests, a steadier ride and more space on deck.
- Speedboat: from ฿2,900 per adult, faster and lighter, a good choice if a bumpier ride doesn't bother you.
If you prefer the speedboat, see our Phi Phi & Khai Islands by Speedboat tour.
How many people are on the catamaran?
We take a maximum of 30 guests per trip, so stops feel less crowded and your guide has time for everyone.
Price & booking
How much does the catamaran tour from Phuket cost?
- Adult: ฿3,200 per person
- Child (3–10 years): ฿3,000 per person
- Infant (0–2 years): free
The price includes hotel pickup and drop-off in Phuket, the speed catamaran cruise, lunch, the Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park fee, snorkelling equipment, an English-speaking guide, life jackets and travel accident insurance.
Is the national park fee included?
Yes. The Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park entrance fee is already in your tour price, so there is nothing to pay in cash at the islands. Some tours collect this fee separately on the day, so it is worth checking when you compare prices.
Can I book the catamaran tour for tomorrow or today?
Yes, subject to availability. We accept bookings up to 06:00 on the morning of your tour (Thailand time). For last-minute bookings, message us on WhatsApp +66 95 424 5382 for the fastest reply.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can cancel for a full refund up to 24 hours before the tour starts (Thailand time). Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the start are non-refundable. To cancel or change your date, contact us by WhatsApp or at booking@amazingcanoeing.com.
On the day
Where does the catamaran tour depart from?
The tour departs from our marina in Ko Kaeo, on Phuket's east coast. Hotel pickup and drop-off by air-conditioned minivan are included from hotels in Phuket Province, and your exact pickup time is sent with your booking confirmation by WhatsApp or email.
Can I swim at Maya Bay?
No. Swimming in Maya Bay is not allowed by the national park, to protect the reef. You can walk on the beach and take photos, then swim at Pileh Lagoon and Khai Island later in the day.
Is Maya Bay open all year?
No. Maya Bay closes to visitors every year from 1 August to 30 September so the reef can recover, and reopens on 1 October. The rest of the tour runs as normal during those months.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Our captain checks the sea conditions every morning and may change the order of stops for safety, tides or national park rules. If the sea is too rough to operate safely, our team will contact you before the tour to arrange your options.
What should I bring?
Swimwear, a towel, flip-flops, reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a camera, a little cash and a copy of your passport. A waterproof phone pouch is useful for the swim stops.
Who it suits
Is the catamaran tour good for children?
Yes. The steadier ride makes the crossing easier for families, and Khai Island has clear, shallow water where children can snorkel close to the beach. Life jackets are provided, and infants up to 2 years old join free.
Can older travellers or pregnant women join?
The catamaran is usually gentler than a speedboat, but this is still a full day at sea with open-water crossings and several stops where you step on and off the boat. If you are pregnant, or have back, heart or mobility concerns, please contact us before booking so we can advise whether this tour is right for you.
